Type

A desktop application a teacher installs on one computer. It is not a web service and there is no Muraqib account.

Installation

Per user. It does not require an administrator account and does not install a system service.

Where data is stored

All classroom records are held in a single database file inside the signed-in user's own application-data folder on the computer where Muraqib is installed. The Help menu shows the exact folder. Nothing is stored on a server belonging to the publisher, and there is no cloud copy of a class.

Backups are written next to that database, in the same per-user folder, unless the teacher chooses to save a copy elsewhere.

Encryption

Database

AES, SQLCipher version 4 format, 256-bit key generated on the machine.

Key protection

The operating system's protected storage - DPAPI on Windows, Keychain on macOS - for everyday opening, plus a 128-bit recovery key held by the teacher.

Backups

Muraqib's own backup files are copies of the encrypted database, so they are encrypted.

Exports

Not encrypted. PDF, Excel, Word and CSV exports are ordinary files and can be read by anyone who obtains them.

Publisher access

None. The publisher holds no key and cannot open a teacher's database or recover it.

Network destinations

Muraqib's own local engine listens only on the loopback address of the machine it runs on. It is not reachable from the network.

Checking for and downloading new versions. Sends no pupil data. Automatic, but an update never installs without the teacher pressing it.

The licence server, on Cloudflare

Only if a paid licence is entered. Sends the licence key and a random identifier for the computer, and nothing else.

The AI relay, on Cloudflare

Only if the teacher switches AI on. Passes the request to Anthropic's Claude API. Off by default.

There are no other destinations. No analytics service, no crash reporting, no advertising or measurement code of any kind is built into the application.

If AI is switched on

The AI features are off until a teacher turns them on, need a paid licence, and can be turned off again. They draft a lesson plan, fill empty boxes in a plan, and reword a comment the teacher wrote.

Before anything is sent, Muraqib replaces the pupil's recorded English name, recorded Arabic name and pupil code on the teacher's own computer, and does the same for a classmate named in the text. Marks, attendance, labels, support plans and the register itself are never sent.

A name Muraqib has never recorded - a nickname, a sibling's name, a misspelling - cannot be recognised and would not be removed. The application says this on the screen that switches AI on.

Requests pass through a relay run by the publisher on Cloudflare, configured to keep neither the request nor the answer, to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic handles the request under its own commercial terms, outside the UAE, and may keep it for up to 30 days; there is no zero-retention agreement with Anthropic. Anthropic never receives the licence key, the computer's identifier, the teacher's name, or a recorded pupil name or code.

Nothing an AI writes is approved, printed or sent by Muraqib. Every draft waits for the teacher to accept, edit or discard it.

Integrity of the download

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows reports an unknown publisher and SmartScreen warns. The SHA-256 fingerprint of each installer is published on the download page so the file can be verified before it is installed.

Update downloads are checked against the size and fingerprint recorded for that release before anything is installed.

Schools and employers set their own rules about third-party software, about where pupil information may be held, and about the use of AI. Those rules apply to Muraqib as to anything else. This page exists to help that assessment, not to substitute for it.
